Devotion: John 3:1-21
Blogger doesn’t have a button where you can press ‘new post’ for me and so I actually typed this devotion on a word doc at 10am this morning. But it’s not posted until now.. haha Fail!
This passage was SO JAM PACKED of information and learning for me!! I filled up almost 3 pages of my book, when I usually fill maybe 1 ½ or 2 pages haha – so I made dot points instead of writing sentences (it would take WAY too long!)
Some thoughts:
- Firstly:
- I think the metaphor of the wind could be the Holy Spirit, who comes and goes, and you also can’t tell where it comes from or where it’s going. I think that you just have to listen out for it and if you hear it, follow and do what it tells you to!
- Secondly:
- We who believe in Jesus will NOT perish, but have eternal life – I mean God loved and still loves us SO MUCH, that he GAVE it one and only son. Jesus was so pure and good and did the will of God obediently, and yet God was still willing to let His PERFECT SON (!!) die painfully for us, when we are unholy and unjust sinners. That is such a deep love. I mean, I would HATE to watch someone die, let alone my SON! And I’m sure our parents/friends/relatives etc. would be in so much grief if we were to die for someone else.. It’s just such a hard thing to think about. Because of Jesus, we are now saved!! :):)
Another thought:
- Jesus was not sent to condemn us, but to save us THROUGH Him. I guess that’s sort of what we have to do as Christians on Earth. We aren’t supposed to judge others because they’re not Christian, but instead we’re supposed to let them know about Jesus so that they too can be saved. God didn’t put us on Earth to judge!! Also, we who believe are not condemned, so why should we condemn non-believers, when we are just as unworthy of God's love as they are??
And lastly,
- Living in the light will show the work that God does THROUGH us.
- The good works we do are not from us, but from God.
So here’s my first post on a devotion – it took AGES(!!) to write haha. Time to go to work experience now and learn more! Talk to you guys later!
SLeung :):)
note: I've just realised that actually I was logged into my other email account which isn't a member, so that's why i couldn't post. Just figured it out haha.
Hope you have all had a good week! My work experience week has been AWESOME! except for today, which was pretty uneventful. But I will tell you all about it this sunday, if you let me haha I will probably talk HEAPS! But I've told bits and pieces to you guys so I'll fill you in on all the details ;)
Oh crap I pressed the backspace button when my cursor hadn't clicked on this text box and I thought i had lost all the bolds/italics/extra notes that I added just then. Luckily the forward button did it's job and retained all this. hahaha
Oh today has been somewhat stressful! :(
great sharing! and yay for first post of devotion! :D
ReplyDeleteso important about everything that you mentioned, and i got that out of that too! so yay for agreeing, but i hadn't thought about the holy spirit aspect of the wind! that totally opened my mind up to more, guess i need to open my brain up more in mornings ^^ but yes! we do need to listen out for it, and be patient, for God will call us for his purpose, we just have to acknowledge and accept it :)
these few weeks have been very hard, because judging is such a natural human characteristic and it's so hard! especially when spending those few days at camp with everyone, coming back to school made it hard for us not to compare non-believers to our christian family. but as Shaz said, it's extremely important to take these few verses in and actually apply it to our life, for Jesus did not judge us, he did not condemn us, instead he died for us. and thats how amazing his love for us really is.
so lets all think before we make another rude comment, or a judgmental thought, (im speaking the most to myself here!) and live a life holy and worthy for God :)
MISS YOU GUYS HEAPS!
that last verse,
ReplyDelete"but those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants"
really reinforces our purpose to bear fruit--like the vineyard passage, it clearly states again, in another way, that we have to be more like Jesus, the light of the world--i.e bear fruit--so that everyone else can see a "projection" of Jesus through us. (something shirlaine taught me :) )
that whole passage is a good reminder of important values that we have to implement in our lives.
awesome post, the lengthier, the better ;D
